... is not something I'd know anything about. Yes, last week I was fortunate enough to go to the National Television Awards, and yes, that did entail sitting only a few seats behind all the stars of my favourite TV shows, and YES, I was practically, in a round-a-bout way, breathing the same air as Gary Barlow himself (swoon)...
... but in true 'we've-only-got-standard-tickets -but-are-considering-flashing-our-ITV-passes-at-everyone-and-anyone-to-see-if-it-makes-a-difference' style, we didn't get within an inch of any red carpet whatsoever. In fact we only arrived at the o2 arena with enough time to speed-buy a glass (or plastic cup) of wine each before the show began!
I decided only to take snaps of all the ITV wins (such is my broadcasting bias), so if you fancy a slightly skewed look at how the evening went down, continue to scroll...
I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! won Best Entertainment Programme - the first of two awards for Ant and Dec that night. Oh. Does that give it away somewhat? Ah, who cares, they win Best Entertainment Presenter every year (notice, no 's' on the word 'presenter' - does that mean Ant and Dec have finally morphed into one person?)!
This Morning won an award for the 3rd year running, this time round for Best Daytime Programme. The This Morning team went BONKERS when this was announced. I wouldn't be surprised if a few of them called in 'sick' with a mystery illness the following morning.
Oh Lord Grantham will be pleased! Downton Abbey won its second award, two years running, for Best Drama. Well, with two births, two deaths, and non stop banter from Dame Maggie Smith's Lady Grantham in the last series, it's no wonder really.
You know how they say that 'all you need to make a successful youtube video is a cute cat doing something adorable or funny', well it would appear that all you need to make a successful TV programme is a bunch of dogs doing something adorable or funny. Paul O'Grady and his loveable pooches from Battersea Dogs' home scooped the award for Best Factual Entertainment.
And the big one. The one they leave till last. The one that really matters. Best Serial Drama (that's a soap to you and me) goes to.... drumroll please... even though the photo above has totally given it away already... CORRIE! An ITV (and British) institution. And Alan Halsall who plays Tyrone also got an award for Best Serial Drama Performance. Well, if you're going into work day after day expecting to be beaten up by your on-screen wife, it's nice to get a weird shaped statuey award-thing in return isn't it?
So there you have it. My best bits of the NTAs.
If you want to see the full list of (unbiased) winners, head to the NTA website, here.
And if you think this looks like a blast (it was!), look out for tickets to the 2014 awards later in the year.
Ta ta for now telly lovers
x
